Nashville, TN · Americana/Roots
CS Hellmann is the recording project of Nashville-based singer-songwriter Chris Hellmann, whose music lives somewhere between Americana, psychedelic folk, and the warm, worn-in sound of ’60s and ’70s roots rock. Drawing from the storytelling of artists like Van Morrison and Bob Seger, the Southern looseness of The Marshall Tucker Band, and a love for records that aren’t afraid to wander, Hellmann builds songs around introspective lyrics, melodic guitars, vocal harmonies, and arrangements that favor feel over convention. Working with producer Jared Corder at Polychrome Ranch in Nashville, Hellmann has developed a sound that feels both familiar and slightly left of center—rooted in American songwriting but colored by psychedelia, indie rock, and the imperfections of older records. His latest single, “The Weight,” stretches that approach across six and a half minutes of guitar, piano, flute, percussion, and layered harmonies, letting the song unfold at its own pace rather than chasing the confines of a traditional radio single. Originally from Cincinnati and now based in Nashville, CS Hellmann continues to release new music while building an audience throughout the Southeast and beyond.
